About Ruth
Hi, my name is Ruth and I am a medical student at the University of Manchester. I am extremely passionate about education and for the past few years, I've been lucky enough to combine my studies with something I really enjoy: tutoring. I’ve been teaching for over three years now, working with students one-on-one and in small groups. I have experience working online, in local schools and even working full time in a school in France.
I absolutely love seeing students grow in confidence and start believing in their own abilities. Whether you’re aiming to boost your GCSE or A Level grades, get ahead before exams, or just need someone to break things down and explain them clearly, I’m here to help. I’ve worked with a range of exam boards and have experience supporting both high-achieving students and those who need a bit more encouragement.
Teaching is something I take seriously, but I always try to keep things relaxed, engaging, and tailored to each student. I have been short listed for tutoring awards two years in a row, which has been a lovely reminder that students and parents appreciate the care I put into my sessions.
Tutoring Style
My lessons are always shaped around the indivual pupil, whether that means tackling tricky topics you're struggling with, reinforcing what you're currently covering in school, or diving deeper into areas you’re curious about. I believe that no two students learn the same way, so I always take the time to adapt my approach to suit your needs and goals.
I also place a big emphasis on building strong foundations and lasting understanding. At the end of each topic, I like to create clear, concise notes that you can refer back to easily. I’m a big believer in spaced repetition (backed by both research and my own experience as a medical student!), so I make sure to revisit previous topics regularly. That might be through quick review questions at the start of a lesson, or linking new content back to what you’ve already learned.
Lastly, applying what you’ve learned is key. Not only is this what the exams are testing for, but also to ensure clear understanding and making sure your new knowledge sticks! I always incorporate practice questions to help you develop confidence and make those all-important connections between the content and how it shows up in assessments.
My goal is to make our sessions both effective and engaging. A space where you can ask questions freely, build confidence, and genuinely enjoy learning.
