I was a teacher for 23 years in Further Education and have recently retired from college work, but am still tutoring. I have taught all three English A Levels, across three exam boards, as well as A Level Film Studies and A Level Creative Writing. In addition, I've taught Level 2 English, both GCSE and Functional Skills. I'm also a produced playwright and a published writer, winning several awards for my short stories. For tutoring, I mainly work supporting GCSE AQA English Language and English Literature. In the summer of 2025, I was an examiner for GSE English Language, Paper 2.

My approach would be to tailor each session to the learner's individual needs, and so I would seek to establish areas of strength, as well as opportunities for improvement. My style is to be friendly and empathetic and to build confidence.

I first taught online during the Covid pandemic and embrace this use of technology to engage and stimulate learners - and learning! 

My focus is to cover GCSE English Language. Depending on the texts, I could teach AQA GCSE English Literature. I look forward to hearing from you.
