Graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Biomedical Science (integrated masters), where I specialised in tissue engineering, making human bone tissue in 3D culture as part of osteoporosis research. Although I focused on this specific area, I love all areas of biology from plants to animals as well as humans. Science was my favourite subject in school and I am very passionate about it. I enjoyed revising for exams, I love to make 'pretty' notes so that they are easy to revise from. For me, using pictures and annotated diagrams is the best way to learn. I am a visual learner and I think it makes it easier to grasp things if it is explained in pictures rather than just words. To help my students improve I don't mind taking time to draw diagrams and explaining them. I understand the importance of sticking to a specification and having a high level of organisation to my notes and revision. I will teach from the exam board specification of the student to make sure that we don't miss any subject areas out and that they are fully prepared for the exam. The most important thing for me is that the student gains something valuable from the tutorial session, which will ultimately help them be successful in their exams. The way I will structure my tutorials is down to the student, we will do what ever is best to help them learn. At the start of the tutorial I will always listen to find out what they need help with and we will go from there. I will spend time before the tutorial preparing materials. For example, drawing diagrams to help me explain a concept. I will research the exam board's style of exams, looking at past papers and putting together practice questions that we can work through together so the student has experience of how to answer questions correctly to gain the full amount of marks. This will also be a way for me to measure their progress and see how they are coming along. Most importantly, my tutorials will not be boring! I know from experience that there is nothing worse than being stuck in a classroom listening to a teacher talking in a monotone. It makes it very easy to lose attention and for your mind to wonder. I will make sure that my tutorials are interesting and captivating, always engaging, something different from the normal classroom experience. I have experience teaching all UK and international exam boards. I personally sat WJEC/Educas exams so am confident with these.

I am friendly and I love my subject, we'll adapt the lesson to help you learn. I want you to feel relaxed and comfortable to ask questions about anything you aren't sure of. I'm a visual learner so I focus on drawing diagrams and using visual aids to explain concepts. The content of the lesson is up to the student, often it will be a topic that wasn't taught as thoroughly in school, but I will ask before the lesson starts what you would like to cover. I understand the importance of sticking to the specification so I upload that and we work from it to ensure everything is understood. I do a little bit of teaching content, then test understanding with a mixture of quizzes, activities and past paper questions. Exam technique will be a big focus too, as you need to know how to turn your knowledge into marks! I write in depth lesson reports so parents can stay on track of what we went over, what was done well and what needs work, as well as what we plan to do the following week.
