About Lydia

My availability is up to date until the end of August! Please send me a message if there are no suitable slots for you and we can arrange a different time.

Hello! My name is Lydia and I recently graduated from the University of Bath with a First Class Honours in BSc Economics, having studied the subject for over 7 years starting at GCSEs. I still draw on knowledge from my A-levels in Economics, Maths, and Computer Science, which allows me to break down complex problems into simple, manageable steps - making learning less overwhelming and more approachable for my students.

As an economics tutor with over 130 lessons taught on different platforms and in-person, I have extensive experience working with students of various abilities and learning styles. My degree-level studies in economics have provided me with a solid foundation and in-depth understanding of the subject, enabling me to effectively guide my students through complex concepts. I have worked with different exam boards and have a strong track record of helping students improve their understanding and performance in economics.

To help my students improve, I focus on building their understanding and confidence through techniques like past exam papers, flashcards, and interactive exercises - methods I used throughout GCSEs, A-levels and university. My aim is to make economics feel less daunting, ensuring students develop strong foundational skills and feel more positive about their learning journey. Through clear explanations and steady practice, I help students feel capable and ready to succeed.

Tutoring Style

I carefully prepare for every lesson, gathering resources specific to the topic and relevant exam questions to cover content effectively. Each lesson is structured: we start with a 10-minute review of the previous lesson to close learning gaps and build confidence. Then, we dive into the day’s content, going over definitions and explanations in detail. I use flashcards, diagrams, and interactive tools to keep students engaged and encourage them to ask questions throughout. We end with exam-style questions to solidify both knowledge and exam technique.

To help students achieve their goals, I create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and tackling tough topics. I simplify complex ideas, making them easier to understand and less intimidating. By building confidence and showing progress early on, I help students not only reach but often exceed their academic goals.

Progress is measured through regular practice and recall exercises. By reviewing exam-style questions and testing content retention, I ensure students can apply their knowledge in real exam settings. I track progress over time, celebrating small wins and focusing on areas for growth.

I believe learning is most effective when it feels relevant. By connecting what we study to real-world examples and future careers, it sparks curiosity and motivation. When students see how their learning matters, they become more engaged and interested. My goal is to make learning both useful and enjoyable.
