About Louis
I have taught exclusively A Level Physics for 5 years at at one of the most highly performing sixth form colleges in the country, where I was also Head of Physics - responsible for the learning and outcomes of approx. 160 Physics A Level students each year, the creation of schemes of work and the overall structure of learning and assessment for Physics. I led the department to deliver the highest set of Physics A Level results the school had ever achieved – 89% A* and 11% A – increasing the number of A* grades by 54%.
I also have many years of experience as a tutor, and have taught or tutored most major exam boards, including international exam boards. Additionally, I have produced and delivered various courses and seminars for different educational consultants and platforms. This includes Oxbridge admissions test and interview preparation, including mock interviews, for Physics, Engineering, and Natural Sciences (physical).
My degree from Cambridge is in Natural Sciences, initially studying Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Materials Science before specialising in Physics and Maths and gaining a Physics degree in the final year.
After graduating I gained a teacher training scholarship from the Institute of Physics and completed my PGCE at King’s College London, where I was tutored by highly influential researchers in education. I was awarded the Blackwell Prize for the most promising trainee Physics teacher.
Whilst at university, I developed my skill and enjoyment of teaching and discussing science and maths by volunteering in schools, helping teachers with A-level and GCSE Maths lessons, and toured twice with the Cambridge Hands On Science Roadshow, visiting secondary schools and community halls demonstrating interactive science experiments to pupils and families.
As well as A Level Physics lessons, I can provide mock Oxbridge interviews which are one hour sessions - half an hour of interview and half an hour of feedback.
I am also happy to help with writing and editing personal statements for university applications; I have supported many dozens of students with personal statements during my time as a teacher.
Please get in touch to arrange lesson times or if you have any other questions. Hope to hear from you soon!

Tutoring Style
With a huge amount of experience teaching and tutoring students with a range of abilities, interest levels, personalities and learning styles, I am able to tailor lessons and homework to the individual whilst making the experience engaging and motivating.
In lessons and when planning work, I employ a range of pedagogical techniques and principles that I have developed both theoretically from research during my teacher training and continuing professional development, as well practically through years of delivering, reflecting upon and improving teaching and learning.
Students are challenged to think for themselves, discovering and exploring how concepts work and problems are solved, but always with the right amount of carefully planned prior learning and teacher support, adding new ideas to a framework of concepts to build up a full understanding that can be applied to solve problems. A first-class subject knowledge of physics, and specifically the A Level curriculum, allows me to provide clear and accurate explanations. Combined with effective revision strategies, consolidation and practice, this results in excellent exam outcomes as well as a true, thorough and rewarding understanding of the physics.
I have a wealth of resources and question sources to draw upon, often fine-tuned to incorporate the best parts from the various materials I have encountered over the years through teaching A Level Physics topics in different ways and for different exam boards.
Each lesson can be accompanied by homework or practice questions, which are adapted to match a student’s level of understanding in the lesson, allowing them to make maximum progress. These are then marked by me and discussed and used in the following lesson, forming the basis of new or continued learning. This results in an effective feedback cycle that promotes the retention and consolidation of knowledge, concepts and their application, as well as continual progress.
I am happy to be contacted outside of lesson times to provide updates to parents and students about how lessons are going, short-term and long-terms aims, and any areas for improvement.
