Hello! I’m Lisa, an experienced English and Drama/Theatre Studies tutor with over 10 years of tutoring experience and more than 15 years of professional experience in theatre, including work across the West End, regional theatre, touring productions and live events.

I hold a Master’s degree in Stage & Events Management from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, as well as a TEFL qualification. I have extensive experience teaching English as an additional language and have worked with students from international schools and a wide range of cultural and educational backgrounds.

I specialise in GCSE and A Level English, English Literature and Drama/Theatre Studies, supporting students across a wide range of exam boards. I also have experience with IGCSE, IB, ESL, IELTS, university applications, personal statements and entrance examinations.

My tutoring is highly personalised. I work with students aiming for the very highest grades, as well as those who have lost confidence, are struggling with particular areas or simply need someone to make the subject more accessible. I have experience working in schools with students with SEND and adapt my teaching style, resources and pace to meet individual learning needs. I believe that creating a supportive and encouraging environment is essential for helping students feel confident enough to ask questions, develop their ideas and make progress.

I’m particularly passionate about helping students become confident, independent writers. Lessons can include close analysis, unseen texts and poetry, essay planning and writing, exam technique, timed practice and tailored work on individual areas for improvement. I use past papers, carefully designed resources and creative approaches to make learning both effective and enjoyable.

My students have achieved excellent results. Last year, 100% of my GCSE students passed, with over 95% exceeding their predicted grades, while all of my A Level students surpassed their predictions.

Alongside one-to-one tutoring, I have delivered workshops in schools and universities, including Shakespeare workshops at Oxford, and have extensive experience working with young people through education, theatre and creative learning programmes.

My aim is not simply to help students achieve a higher grade, but to help them understand the subject, find their voice and leave each lesson feeling more confident than when they arrived.

My approach is friendly, supportive and highly personalised. I adapt every lesson to the individual student, identifying exactly where they need support and building their confidence alongside their subject knowledge.

I encourage students to think critically, develop their own interpretations and understand how to turn their ideas into strong, well-structured exam answers. Rather than simply giving students the answers, I help them develop the skills and confidence to reach them independently.

I use a combination of past papers, exam questions, tailored resources, model answers and creative activities. Lessons are relaxed and encouraging, while remaining focused on clear progress and exam success.

Whether a student is aiming for the top grades, catching up on missed content or simply looking to become more confident in English, I want every student to finish a lesson feeling that the subject is more manageable and that they know exactly how to improve.
