I tutor during weekdays, weekevenings and weekends. Please look at my online calendar for exact days and times. I update it consistently.

I prefer to see each student once a week, on the same day, at the same time. This approach tends to work better for students, parents and myself.

Tutoring Style

Information about me and my tutoring style:

Based on feedback from many students, I'm better at teaching English than many qualified teachers. I tend to be a patient and relaxed tutor. However, sometimes it's necessary to change this approach. I begin by going through exam papers first, in order to make sure the student is familiar with exactly what they are going to be tasked to do during the exams, and how they are going to be marked (I have experience with all of the major exam boards and their marking schemes). Whilst I do this, I explain how many paragraphs are required for each question. I then focus on how to structure paragraphs for different questions, as different questions require different structures.

Once students learn these things, a lot of the journey comes down to consistent practice and consistent feedback. It's one thing to understand all of this and another thing to be able to do it -- and to not only do it, but to do it fast enough during exams. For this reason, I tend to set regular homework. However, I try to only set homework that will take one hour or less (often less) per week. Various studies show setting too much homework is often counter-productive.

In addition to this exam-focused tuition, I do also teach the books, plays and poems (premise, plot, characters, themes, symbols, motifs, arguments, counter-arguments and context) at a slower pace, as well as provide revision sessions.
