About Finn

Hi, I'm Finn - I started tutoring Economics at university and haven't really stopped since. I'm now a professional tutor for GCSE, A Level, and IB students across the UK and the wider world.

After attaining all As and A*s at GCSE and A Level, I headed to the University of Sheffield to study Economics, graduating with a First in 2023. I was then recruited by the United Nations in Bangkok as a researcher and consultant on the Space Economy and the use of satellites for Sustainable Development, which was not quite as fascinating as it sounds! But it was there that I realised my real passion lay in teaching, so I returned to the UK and worked for the government whilst growing my tutoring client base. After a year I took the leap to tutor full-time, which allowed me to spend half of 2025 travelling through Central Asia and eventually spending three months volunteering part-time for a school-building charity in Nepal. I'm now back in Europe and due to begin a Masters at UCL this September.

I started tutoring in 2021 whilst still at university, and it's been the most rewarding thing I've done - students regularly go from failing grades to As, sometimes faster than either of us expected. My clients include students at presitigious prep schools in the UK, as well as international schools in China, the UAE, Qatar and more. I've also had the chance to teach English as a second language and Maths in several parts of the world, which I draw on when working with students studying in their second language.

Tutoring Style

Real-World Context

Textbooks lag behind reality, in the UK's case, by over a decade. While exam board content has remained static since 2015, the world has not. As an ex-UN Economist, I bring first-hand experience of high-level emerging research and global policy, ensuring students understand the world as it exists today, not as it's written in an 11-year-old curriculum guide. It's a lot easier to understand excess demand when examples revolve around Stanley flasks, or macroeconomic shocks when discussing the current conflict in the Middle East. This makes core theory much easier to understand, apply, and stick.

Exam Technique

Subject knowledge is only half the battle; the other half is the mark scheme, and as this is my full-time profession and not a side hustle, the difference shows. I identify the specific heuristics and answer structures required to secure A/A* and Level 7 grades - it doesn't take long to spot where an underperforming student is losing easy marks. These areas are targeted in-lesson and I often set some homework for students to stay on track until the next session.

Relatability & Rapport

As someone not too far removed from my own A Levels, I get what actually makes content click. My lessons are structured but never dull - I try to make Economics feel like something worth being curious about rather than a syllabus to get through. Every lesson ends with a challenging question that pushes students to apply everything we've covered and then some, so they leave with a genuine sense of progress rather than just ticking through content. This is a recurrent theme whether I'm working with high-fliers or students navigating homeschooling or school/health disruptions. In my opinon, building confidence and enjoyment with the material is always the priority.

My lessons are highly interactive and, frankly, fun - regardless of topic. It takes two to tango, though, and I trust students to bring their best attitude and leave their phone aside.
