About Christopher
As an experienced teacher, I have taught for 6 years in Secondary school, covering the Edexcel specification at GCSE and AQA for A-level. I have supported students with many kinds of additional needs over the years, whether they had a diagnosed condition or not. I am experienced working through all levels of the syllabus, whether students need support to access a passing grade, or coaching to achieve the very highest exam scores. I always teach to the student and plan my lessons according to their learning preferences, their current abilities and understanding.
I have resources adapted to support and challenge students at every stage of their journey, from worksheets to online quizzes and interactive animations to ensure that key concepts are firmly embedded. I also make time to guide students in reflecting on their progress against the exam syllabus, developing strong strategies for them to manage their own learning into the future.
Since becoming an examiner with Pearson since 2025, I have direct experience with the style and content of answers that are needed to score the highest marks in GCSE and A-level exams. Every examiner wants to see good understanding from the responses they mark, and I can give invaluable feedback to students in tweaking their verbal or written responses to access the next level of marks, and to avoid common traps or misconceptions.
Tutoring Style
My approach is always to establish a relationship of mutual respect and common interests early on so that students can feel comfortable in meeting the next level of challenge in every session on our journey. Lessons are planned in the standard structure of Starter – Main(s) – Plenary/reflection so that the student knows what to expect, but I am very flexible in taking the lesson where it needs to go in order to address misconceptions, build confidence, or pursue a particular line of interest.
I teach with unlimited patience and encouragement so that students can make the most progress possible and look forward to our sessions each week. I am well known for my sense of humour, and encourage students to make light of mistakes made – as long as work is then done to reinforce a better understanding for next time.
I am happy to work with students towards any kind of goal which we can agree at the beginning of the tutoring. This may be working towards a particular grade, or be focused in building confidence or interest in the subject. I will be honest with you in making your academic goals realistic and reviewing your progress towards them over time.
