About Yvette

First-class honours degree in English Literature; Distinction MA Education; experienced tutor and examiner.

I am a highly effective and reflective English tutor with over eight years’ experience, delivering exceptional outcomes at GCSE English Language and Literature and A Level English Literature. I have a proven track record of securing outstanding results at both A Level and GCSE. I have expertise in teaching students across the ability range (including those with SEND and SEMH), guiding students to achieve their full potential, often exceeding their targets. Whether you are looking for a tutor to support you to achieve an A* at A Level, Grade 9/A* at GCSE, secure a pass or any grade in between, I have the knowledge and demonstrable skills to help you get there.

Furthermore, I am an examiner of GCSE English Language and Literature (Eduqas) and A Level English Literature (AQA-B), ensuring rigorous understanding of examination requirements and how to achieve top grades, leading to targeted approaches in my tutoring to maximise outcomes.

A-Level texts taught: The Handmaid's Tale, The Kite Runner, Songs of Innocence and of Experience, Othello, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Keats' poetry (selection for AQA-B), Death of a Salesman, Persuasion, Wuthering Heights, NEA support (independent text selection).

Happy to consider tutoring any text for A-Level. Please message me with any specific queries.

Tutoring Style

My approach to tutoring is highly collaborative, leading to full engagement and real progress for my students.

I believe all students can achieve excellent results and I take different approaches dependent on the individual. This includes effective use of written tasks, questioning and conversation to inform my teaching approach so that I can close learning gaps and develop students' strengths, ensuring each student achieves their full potential. Adaptations are made to effectively support all students, including students with SEND, SEMH, struggling with confidence or otherwise needing additional support.

I am passionate about fostering a supportive, high-expectations learning environment and building strong relationships that enable students to thrive. I have developed a reputation for being able to reach students who lack confidence in their abilities or those who have disengaged with English. Making sure my students feel heard is important to me.

Clarity is key to my approach; this is true of my explanations and teaching style, but also expectations and ensuring targets are understood, as is the amount of work required to achieve them. I hold myself to the same high standards that I expect of my students and believe in leading by example. In my experience, when both teacher and student are willing, present and working hard, there is no limit to what is possible!
