I’m Richard, an experienced Maths tutor with a Mathematics degree from the University of Manchester. I have spent many years teaching and supporting students across a wide age range, from KS2 through to GCSE, IGCSE, A Level and Further Maths. My subject knowledge covers everything from building secure number skills and algebraic fluency to more advanced topics such as calculus, trigonometry, mechanics, statistics and proof.

I have worked with students across the main exam boards, including Edexcel, AQA and OCR, and I am very familiar with the demands of both school assessments and public exams. Over the years, I have helped students strengthen weak areas, improve confidence, and make real progress towards ambitious targets. I have supported learners aiming simply to pass, as well as those pushing for the very highest grades. My background in education, combined with a strong mathematical foundation, allows me to explain ideas clearly, spot misconceptions quickly, and help students move forward with confidence.

My tutoring style is calm, clear, and highly personalised. I focus on helping students properly understand what they are doing, rather than just memorising methods. I take time to identify where a student is secure, where the gaps are, and what is causing them to get stuck, and then I build from there step by step.

In lessons, I aim to create a positive and focused atmosphere where students feel comfortable thinking aloud, making mistakes, and asking questions. I break difficult ideas into manageable parts, use plenty of guided practice, and keep checking understanding as we go. I also place a strong emphasis on exam technique, written method, and building independence, so that students are not just improving in the lesson, but becoming stronger and more confident in their own work too.

If a student lets me know each week which topics are feeling most urgent or difficult, I can make the best possible use of lesson time and target the areas where help is most needed.
