Passionate to help everyone grow their confidence in science and maths! Over fifteen years experience tutoring GCSE & A-Level through to the ESAT & TUMA entrance exams and onto undegraduate degree-level. 

I teach the range in abilities: supporting those who want help to gain GCSE maths and science, providing students the extra guidance to improve beyond a simple pass, and equipping many for entry into top universities.

This wide experience in tutoring comes founded on a strong academic background and natural enthusiasm. My fascination for science and maths since trying to fathom space travel aged four [an early age] led me several years on complete a doctorate at the University of Nottingham in particle cosmology. This research examined the fundamental nature of matter: applying quantum field theories and using computer simulations to examine structures in the early universe and consider theoretical phenomena to one day observe in the lab!

I gained entry to Cambridge for Natural Science through five As in Physics, Maths, and Chemistry A-Levels. (They introduced the A* long after my time!) Taking German gave me a nice extra to maintain my interest in languages. Study in Natural Sciences allowed to the University level both further my interest in Chemistry and find a love for Geology. I completed my undergraduate at Cambridge obtaining a (first class) masters in Physics. 

This rich education in science and maths cemented my lifelong enthusiasm for these subjects. A great fascination I now hope to impart my students in helping them towards achieving their goals!

My aim for the student in any level centres on growing a confidence and insight to help both in remembering the information and more importantly to establish a lasting enjoyment in the subject!

Friendly and Personal: The great advantage to tuition comes through the tailored learning both to the aims and interests for the student. Beyond the basic knowledge my ability to create a friendly rapport helps students increase their enthusiasm for the subject, and gives them confidence to ask whenever they need help.

Personal Engagement: Students know their own lives best! In preparation for tuition, I advise students rank every topic to give an overview on their capabilities. Each tutorial then starts in prompting the student to assess for themselves any new areas wanting support. The learning itself invites students to offer ideas and guide them then towards the answers. 

Making Relevant: Relating topics to everyday experiences, especially in the sciences, provides a great means to intuitively understand and remember the concepts. Besides an answer to the most frequenct query, 'Why would I want to know this?'!

Continual Learning: Practice throughout the week provides the most important way for improving ability. I direct students on the work to best help them between tuition. Alongside the subject material itself, I encourage students consider the way they should organise their tasks to ensure a practicle schedule.

Exams: Understandably these form a significant concern for both students and parents. Honing the techniques for a student to display their fullest capability stays an important component in tutorials. Guidance on revision strategies and helping students timetable their practice serves to strengthen the base knowledge for success on results day.
