Hi, my name is Mehek! I am a 2nd year dental student at Newcastle University. I have been a tutor for nearly 2 years, consistently helping students exceed their goals. Having sat GCSEs, A levels, and UCAT (including undergoing the university admissions process) relatively recently, allows me to understand the pressure that school is in its last few years. I'm dedicated to helping students thrive, gain confidence and make lasting progress so that they can achieve exceptional results. I offer tuition for Chemistry A-level/GCSE and university admission support for the UCAT, personal statements and interviews. Some of my credentials: I have achieved 3 A*s in my A-levels (biology, chemistry & maths), 9 grade 9s in my GCSEs and scored a 3020 on my UCAT (when it was out of 3600). Additionally, I can also provide detailed support for aspiring dental students on advice on the challenging admission process however, my support is not limited to this :) 

My lessons typically begin by going through the content of the topic we are studying for that day. Once this is familiarised, I ensure I integrate active learning methods into my classes including flashcards, mind maps, blurting and practice questions. This technique stimulates your brain to store information long-term because it encourages you to consolidate, test yourself on your understanding of the content and it helps me as the tutor fill in any gaps in your knowledge. This process initiates long-term memory which is crucial for exams. It is imperative to me that my students truly comprehend their learning as this is a sustainable method for excelling in exams, rather than memorising sentences word-for-word from a textbook. 

I also ensure adaptability to each individual's preferred learning style; I acknowledge that every student has a different learning method therefore, I accompany this with a personalised teaching method. Together, my student and I work to find the best lesson style tailored for them. For example, diagrams for visual learners, adjustment of pace and discovering their favoured revision tools and methods. 

Over the progression of a topic, I will increase the level of independence given to a student, particularly when going through practice questions as this not only develops their confidence, but it also strengthens their critical thinking when tackling exam style questions.
