I have now been teaching for over 20 years. My subject specialism is Chemistry but I am confident teaching all sciences at GCSE, as well as helping with improving study skills. I graduated from York University with a first class MChem Degree before going on to complete a PhD at Bristol University. I studied A-levels in Chemistry, Biology and Maths as well as AS-levels in Physics and Further Maths - I achieved an A grade in all of my exams. I have not always found school easy and was diagnosed with Dyslexia when I was 9 years old. My reading age was 2 years below my peers and my parents were told I would be unlikely to gain any formal qualifications - how wrong were they! I firmly believe everyone can achieve whatever they set their mind to, provided they have the motivation and determination to succeed. I was very lucky to have an amazing tutor who taught me to read and to love it - it changed my life.

It is important to me to get to know my students so that I can help maximise their learning potential - what works for one student doesn't always work for another. Each tutorial is bespoke and tailored to the individual to work on identifying the areas where help is most needed. 

The biggest barrier to learning for most is their own confidence. Building confidence in learners is key to improving understanding. I can help with strategies to improve understanding which then builds confidence making the learning process more enjoyable.

I have been an examiner for over 10 years so have an excellent insight into the exams process and can help those preparing for exams work on key skills needed to improve their grades.
