About Laura
Hi, I’m Laura, a qualified teacher (QTS), experienced GCSE and A Level examiner, and literacy specialist with a proven track record of helping students exceed their target grades.
I tutor the following subjects across all major exam boards and levels. As a KS2, GCSE, and A Level examiner, I bring extensive insight and experience to every session:
English Language / English Literature / History
Levels: Key Stage 2 / Key Stage 3 / GCSE / A Level
As an examiner, I know exactly what exam boards are looking for, from high-mark responses and effective structure to the precise strategies that turn good work into top grades. Each year, I mark thousands of exam scripts, giving me insider insight that goes far beyond standard tutoring. This means I can show students not just what to do, but how to meet the exact criteria needed for success.
I have been described as a “magician” by parents for helping students rapidly improve both their grades and confidence, whether that’s making complex texts accessible, developing strong analytical writing, or helping students overcome self-doubt.
With a First-Class degree in History (with a strong focus on essay writing), Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), and a National Professional Qualification in Leading Literacy (NPQLL), I have taught across both primary and secondary settings. I have led English progress and Pupil Premium strategy, and supported learners of all abilities, including SEND and SEMH students. I have extensive experience working with students from a wide range of backgrounds and attainment levels.
If your goal is exam success, confidence, and measurable progress, I would love to help you achieve it. With my combination of teaching expertise and examiner insight, I provide students with the knowledge, strategies, and confidence they need to succeed.
Tutoring Style
My teaching style is focused, structured and encouraging - but above all, it’s informed by the insider knowledge that only an examiner can bring. I teach students how to think like examiners: how to read questions carefully, plan effectively and write with purpose and precision.
Every lesson is tailored to the individual. Whether a student needs help understanding complex texts, improving analysis, or boosting confidence in writing, I break it down in clear, accessible steps that make progress feel achievable.
I combine high expectations with warmth and empathy, creating a space where students feel supported but challenged to do their best. Lessons are friendly and focused.
Parents consistently comment on the transformation they see: improved grades, renewed confidence and students who actually enjoy English again. My aim is simple: to help every learner reach their potential through expert guidance, hard work, and a genuine belief that they can succeed.
