About Laura
Hello, I’m Laura, a qualified teacher, GCSE and A Level senior examiner, and literacy specialist. I hold a First-Class Honours degree in History, Qualified Teacher Status and the National Professional Qualification in Leading Literacy (NPQLL).
I specialise in English Language and English Literature across all exam boards, including GCSE, A Level, Access courses and retakes. I also support essay-writing skills. Each year, I mark thousands of examination responses, giving me detailed insight into what earns marks, from securing a pass to achieving Grade 9 or A/A*.
My remaining and upcoming spaces are for English tuition only. Given the preparation required across different History modules, I am not accepting new History students until the next academic year.
Availability, rates and booking
All available and upcoming slots are shown on the calendar on this profile. I cannot add further teaching hours or hold slots following an enquiry; lessons must be booked to secure the time.
The displayed rates are current. No discounts are offered, reflecting my specialist qualifications, examiner experience and fully committed teaching schedule.
Tutoring Style
My first session is diagnostic, using discussion and short activities to identify the student’s strengths, needs and next steps.
Lessons are structured, supportive and personalised. I teach students to interpret questions, organise arguments, analyse precisely and manage exam timing. Models, sentence stems and planning tables break complex skills into manageable steps.
We review work together so students can ask questions, practise improvements and understand how to apply feedback independently. Resources and feedback are kept in shared Google Docs, with regular practice between lessons essential for progress.
Lesson time and requests
All marking, feedback and personalised resource creation, including quotation tables, posters and revision plans, take place within the booked hour. I teach back-to-back and cannot complete work outside lesson time. Anything sent beforehand will be reviewed during the session.
Please give as much notice as possible for upcoming exams, deadlines and specific requests. Larger tasks may require several lessons.
Two weekly sessions are recommended for regular support with both English Language and Literature. With one session, we will need to agree priorities.
My aim is to build confident, independent students who understand both what to do and why it works.
Cancellations
Cancellations follow PMT’s terms: less than 48 hours’ notice incurs a 100% charge. More than four cancellations, or two short-notice cancellations, may result in you being asked to find another tutor. Consistent attendance supports progress and helps me manage limited availability fairly.
