About Finn

Hi, I'm Finn. I started tutoring Economics at university in 2021 and haven't really stopped since. I'm now a full-time tutor for GCSE, A Level and IB students across the UK and internationally.

I graduated with a First in Economics from the University of Sheffield in 2023 before being recruited by the United Nations in Bangkok as a researcher and consultant. It was there that I realised teaching was where I actually wanted to be, so I returned to the UK and built my tutoring practice into a full-time career.

Beyond Economics, I have extensive experience teaching students in their second language, and have taught English and Maths across three different Asian countries and recently spent three months volunteering at a school-building charity in Nepal. A significant portion of my current Economics students are non-native speakers, and that experience shapes how I explain and communicate throughout every lesson.

My clients include students at leading prep schools across the UK as well as international schools in China, the UAE and Qatar. Students regularly make more progress than either of us expected, and faster. That's what keeps me doing this.

If you're looking for a tutor who takes the work seriously and brings some genuine enthusiasm for the subject, I'd love to hear from you.

Tutoring Style

My lessons are highly interactive and, frankly, fun - regardless of topic. I try to make Economics feel like something worth being curious about rather than a syllabus to grind through. I work with all kinds of students - from high-fliers chasing an A* to those catching up after illness or a difficult year - and wherever a student is starting from, building their confidence and enjoyment of the subject is always the first thing I focus on. The results tend to follow from there.

How I teach is heavily influenced by my time as an economist at the UN. A large part of that role was distilling complex economic policy and strategy into something heads of state and senior policymakers could quickly understand and discuss at a high level. It turns out that securing every AO3 and AO4 mark demands a very similar level of clarity and mastery, and that's a standard I know how to teach to. When I use a real-world example in a lesson, it's usually one I have some proximity to. That tends to help concepts click first time.

Exam technique can be genuinely shocking in how much it moves a grade. Students who arrived quietly hoping for a C have left with a credible shot at an A. Spending enough time inside five major mark schemes, which as a full-time tutor I do, gives you a precise picture of where marks are actually bleeding. There are heuristics every student should know, and the gaps in marks tend to be the same ones repeated: a command word not properly addressed, the right answer lost inside a confused structure. I find them quickly and close them.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to hesitate to give me a message. I aim to reply to all queries within the 24 hours.
