About Ekaterina

I am a 2nd year Economics, Finance & Data Science student at Imperial College London, where I hold the Business School Excellence Award, a 50% scholarship which recognises the potential I demonstrated in my application and interview.

I achieved 4A*s in A-level Mathematics (Edexcel), Further Mathematics (Edexcel), Economics (AQA) and French (AQA), and I am on track for a First in my degree.

Alongside my A-level expertise, my university modules so far have included Mathematical Foundations (linear algebra and real analysis), Probability & Statistics, Introduction to Data Science, Microeconomics 1 & 2, Macroeconomics 1 & 2, Data Structures & Algorithms, Econometrics 1 & 2, Machine Learning, Operations Research, and Databases & Cloud Computing. This training has developed advanced fluency in calculus, linear algebra, optimisation, probability theory, statistical inference, programming, and economic modelling.

I have extensive experience tutoring and mentoring students aged 14-18, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. My recent roles include tutoring 10 Year 12 students in a 14-week TMUA preparation programme, as well as delivering two 6-week Further Mathematics A-level accelerator programmes to a cohort of 10 students - first in Year 12 and again in Year 13. In addition, I have mentored six students through a three-month university applications and personal statement programme, supporting competitive applications to top UK universities such as Oxbridge and Imperial (for a range of courses including maths, economics, and computer science).

Tutoring Style

My main aims are to build confidence through a patient, welcoming atmosphere where no question is silly, as well as a teaching style aligned with each student's learning style and goals (in terms of grades and future prospects).

In the first session, I assess strengths and gaps, either through discussion or a diagnostic paper, nd we agree on clear objectives and a focused plan. Then, lessons typically begin with a short recap to consolidate prior learning. I then break down new material methodically, demonstrating how to approach different question types and how examiners allocate marks. Students are encouraged to verbalise their reasoning as we work through progressively challenging problems, allowing me to understand their thought process and improve efficiency.

I provide curated packs of past-paper questions, structured notes and step-by-step methods to support independent practice between sessions.

For students aiming for A*s, we focus on precision, speed, and mastering the hardest question types. For those who want to get a deeper understanding (perhaps if they wish to study the subject at a higher level), I am also super happy to provide more proofs/intuition and/or extend topics beyond the specification - linking A-level mathematics and economics to university-level ideas (or for GCSE students, to A-level ideas).
