Having been a chess coach alongside tutoring, I help prepare students to become resilient in order to consistently make good decisions under pressure. Very often, students have chosen to write their personal statements with me, and I have helped them demonstrate their unique strengths alongside their readiness to learn and understanding of the course they are applying to, with great success.

I have the teaching experience and exam-specific know-how as well as the knack of making students more confident in and accountable for their own learning.

With every session, I want students to feel more confident not only in the subject material and exam technique, but in their ability to learn. Sessions are designed for students to build independence and the capability to reason in familiar and non familiar contexts.

I help students to first, ask more incisive questions, and second, learn how to answer their novel questions themselves with the knowledge they already have. Over time, they build resilience to tough questions and a more acute understanding of what they do or do not know, helping them to learn more efficiently.

Students can expect to become better at short-chain reasoning as well as long chain reasoning. I find most students are a few cognitive traps away from understanding a subject deeply, which can often be found quickly in sessions as I constantly challenge students to critically analyse their own thought processes, revealing any structural misunderstandings.

Sessions can take multiple forms as best fits the needs of the student: whether that be learning from scratch, re-covering material, exam technique, or deep subject mastery (integrating material beyond the course). Oftentimes, sessions are a mixture of these, as students possess different levels of understanding in each topic.

One of the trademarks features of sessions with me is that I will guide students to realise they knew everything all along. By carefully crafting sub-questions that they can confidently answer, I help them logically reason to the answer themself, rather than spoon-feeding answers and explanations. In this way, students learn how to reason independently, by mimicing the line of questioning for themself. At the same time, students gain an unshakeable confidence as they realise they can answer seemingly impossible questions without having memorised anything new.
