I am a 3rd year mathematics student at Josephine Butler College, Durham and achieved 3 A*’s in maths, further maths and physics. Since beginning professional mathematics tutoring in October 2023, I have helped students of a wide range of ages and abilities build confidence, strengthen their understanding, and achieve their academic goals. Working with young people to develop not only their mathematical and problem solving skills but also their confidence, character and resilience is one of the most rewarding aspects of tutoring and remains a major motivation for my work.

Specializing in 1 to 1 sessions, I provide a safe and engaging space where students are able to discuss, learn and explore without fear of getting a question wrong or feeling under pressure.

A typical session with me is first and foremost dependent on the student’s needs and questions. If the student has no outstanding queries, then working through targeted past paper pratice questions to find areas of weakness is typically the way to go; diving into each question deeply and reinforcing the key concepts in a conversational and discovery style leading to a richer understanding and a boost in confidence.

I believe that empathy and understanding are essential when it comes to tutoring, the last thing someone wants when they are having a bad day is to have yet another person hammering on their door. Patience and understanding in lessons does not always attract the most attention compared to concrete results, yet I believe it is at least as important and should not be overlooked.
