About David
I have been teaching for 33 years and now after all this time I am stepping back from being in charge of Science at the school in which I still work. I think. 'still working', still teaching, is important as it means that when it comes to Tutoring I am bang up to date and well informed. I am going back to being Head of Physics, subject and student focussed, enabling me to focus on having the greatest impact in the classroom
So I guess you might say I am semi retired from teaching but along with other business interests I still have the drive, to support and progress those with a blossoming interest in Physics.
Tutoring Style
As your Tutor we’ll need to trust each other – This probably the most important thing!
You’ll need to trust that I have that deep subject knowledge and know the best way to break things down and explain them to you and I’ll need to trust that you are open and honest with me about what you are finding difficult!
If we can get this right, there is no reason why we can’t make great progress together.
When we start a new topic, I will usually get you to do some guided self-analysis so we can think about where it is best to focus our efforts. There’s no point in spending time on things you know!
As your tutor, I’ll be listening as we work together trying to find your weak spots, adapting what we do, the models I use and the questions I ask. It’s pointless just dumping more and more information on you if things haven’t clicked!
I’ll be patient with you; we’ll repeat things until we are both sure that you have ‘mastery’ of what we are doing. We’ll make use of the ‘I do’, ‘We do’, ‘You do’ approach building independence and confidence in what you do. We know we are on the best website for Physics based resources and we will assess what we have achieved using PMT resources and others. The best place to make mistakes is in the safe supportive atmosphere that we create in a tutoring session. It really doesn’t matter if at first you get things wrong. What matters is the success down the line and examination results that you are really, really happy with!
