Hello! My name is Charlotte, a qualified teacher with over 10 years experience in both mainstream and private settings. I have ample experience teaching all 3 sciences to triple GCSE level and for multiple exam boards. When teaching in school I held a middle leadership position as the deputy programme leader for a large science department and KS3 science lead. I understand how to effectively teach the sciences! I am now a full time private tutor, teaching sciences for multiple exam boards. I tutor students internationally. I tutor home educated students. I tutor students who struggle in school or who are hoping to improve their grades. I offer tuition during the daytime and evenings, weekdays and weekends.

A few more bits from me: 

During my teacher training placement I was awarded a scholarship from the Royal Society of Chemistry which gave me invaluable insight and access to resources that helped shaped my teaching style. I help to bring out the excitement in science! 

Prior to teaching I was a professional chef (edible science experiments as I like to call it)! 

When I'm not teaching I am likely out dog walking or swimming- sometimes both! Being from Cornwall I love spending time at the beach and being outside. 

I believe that learning develops from positive relationships- students learn better from teachers they like! I build these positive relationships by caring about students as individuals- what their passions and goals are- and tap into these. Students find my lessons engaging and fun. I have had feedback from families where students now enjoy the sciences which they may not have previously. Sciences can be so abstract, and so by relating the learning to the real world and using understandable analogies and language, I can break down difficult concepts and make them more understandable and retainable. I do this by building strong foundations in learning, which is so often why students become disengaged with the sciences- the basics were not established correctly. I draw out misconceptions; I use a lot of digrams and drawings to visualise difficult content which we then apply to past exam papers; I model exam technique, from an examiners perspective; students apply their learning to exam questions where I can assess their understanding and provide feedback to show how marks are awarded. With my experience I can differentiate with ease. I teach many students with different SEND and provide individual support by breaking down the content, through structured and chunked questioning- all whilst building confidence and helping to prepare students for their GCSE exams.
