About Ope

Hi, I’m Ope. I tutor OCR A Level Chemistry with one main focus: exam performance.

A lot of students understand the content but stay stuck on a B or C because their answers are not written in the way the examiners expect. That’s what we focus on. If that sounds like your child (or you!), then please keep on reading.

What I help with:

Moving from “I kind of get it” to getting marks, using OCR-style questions and prioritising mark scheme language.

Improving answer structure of weightier questions: 4, 5 and 6 mark answers (structure, depth, key phrases, command words)

Targeted homework to fill in gaps of weak areas identified during sessions, and a suggested revision routine where necessary.

Why me

15+ years tutoring experience, online and highly interactive

Specialist OCR A focus, so practice is always exam-board aligned

2x Russell Group grad + scholarship winner: MSc Green Chemistry (University of York) and BSc Chemistry with Biochemistry (Queen Mary, University of London)

How lessons work

We start with a quick diagnostic to determine weak areas - organic / physical / inorganic - and why marks are being lost (problem of understanding/ poor technique). Then we use a simple cycle each week: do a brief recall of the topic, practise exam-style questions, review against the mark scheme, and set focused homework to lock it in during the week which we review in the following session.

If your child is currently around a B/C and aiming for an A or A*, message me with their current working grade and their target grade and I’ll be happy to see where I can assist.

My approach (what you can expect)

Most students don’t need more content. They need a better method in exams. Sessions are structured and practical:

Step 1: Diagnose weak areas and problems (timing, weak phrasing, missed steps, lack of understanding)

Step 2: Build the skill with short teaching where needed

Step 3: Exam training using OCR-style questions, using the mark scheme as a benchmark to solidify technqiue.

Step 4: Regular homework: a short set of targeted questions to improve weak points identified during the session.

Step 5: Track progress in next session: we review what has improved and what still needs work at the start of the next session

For parents

I send a brief update after sessions so you know what we worked on and what your child should do next during the week.

Best fit

Students working at B/C who are aiming for A/A* and are willing to do the work in between sessions to see improvement, with the right guidance and OCR-specific insight.
