I am a qualified English teacher, English Lead and AQA GCSE English examiner with experience teaching and tutoring students across KS3 and KS4 in mainstream schools, alternative provision and one-to-one settings. I specialise in GCSE English Language and Literature, supporting students of all abilities to develop stronger reading, writing and analytical skills while building the confidence they need to succeed.

Throughout my career I have worked with students from a wide range of backgrounds, including those with SEND, SEMH needs and emotionally based school avoidance. This has taught me the importance of adapting my approach to each learner rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all method. Whether a student needs support catching up, securing a pass, or aiming for the highest grades, I tailor lessons to their individual strengths, goals and learning style.

As an English Lead, I have designed curriculum resources, developed schemes of learning and supported colleagues to improve teaching and outcomes. My experience as an AQA examiner also gives me detailed insight into what examiners are looking for, allowing me to help students write with greater clarity, precision and confidence in exam conditions.

Above all, I want students to leave each lesson feeling more capable than when they arrived. Academic progress follows when students feel understood, supported and challenged appropriately.

My lessons are calm, encouraging and highly personalised. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and thinking aloud without fear of getting things wrong.

One of my greatest strengths as a teacher is being able to quickly understand what a student needs in the moment. If an explanation isn't working, I'll adapt my approach, use different examples or break ideas into smaller steps until they make sense. Equally, if a student is ready to be challenged, I'll push them to think more critically and develop greater independence.

Lessons are interactive and focused on developing lasting understanding rather than simply completing worksheets. Depending on a student's goals, we might work on close reading, essay writing, language analysis, creative writing, vocabulary development or exam technique. I regularly use modelling, guided practice and targeted feedback so that students understand not only what to improve, but how to improve it.

My aim is to help every student become a more confident reader, writer and thinker, equipping them with the skills they need to achieve their goals both in examinations and beyond.
