About Megan
–– Year 12 Summer Biology Revision Courses ––
The summer holiday provides an ideal opportunity for Year 12 students to consolidate their understanding before beginning the demanding second year of A-Level Biology. My tailored summer revision courses are designed to address gaps in knowledge, strengthen weaker topics, and reinforce key Year 12 content that forms the foundation of Year 13 study. These sessions are particularly beneficial for students who found parts of the course challenging, underperformed in end-of-year assessments, are aiming for top grades, or are preparing for competitive university applications such as Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science. By building confidence and securing a strong grasp of core concepts over the summer, students can start Year 13 in a position of strength and maximise their potential in their final examinations.
Experienced A-Level Biology Tutor | Qualified Teacher | Examiner | PhD Scientist
I am a highly experienced Biology specialist with a unique combination of expertise as a qualified teacher, examiner, and PhD-trained research scientist. I specialise in A-Level Biology tuition, helping students build confidence, master challenging concepts, and achieve outstanding examination results.
My academic background includes a PhD in Molecular Microbiology, an MSc in Biomedical Sciences, and a BSc in Biology. Prior to teaching, I worked extensively in scientific research across both academia and industry, holding research positions at King’s College London and, most recently, University College London. This depth of subject knowledge allows me to bring Biology to life through real-world scientific applications and contemporary research examples.
Following my research career, I gained Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have spent the past decade teaching Biology in leading secondary schools and lecturing in higher education. As an examiner, I provide students with valuable insight into examination requirements, assessment criteria, and the techniques needed to maximise marks.
My tutoring experience ranges from intensive revision programmes and holiday crash courses to long-term academic mentoring. I have successfully supported students through complete GCSE and A-Level Biology courses, designing personalised learning programmes tailored to individual goals, strengths, and areas for development. Having worked with a diverse range of learners, including those with additional educational needs, I have developed effective teaching strategies that consistently promote excellent progress and academic confidence.
I have also supported aspiring medical students in their Biology studies and admissions preparation, helping many secure offers from leading UK medical schools and universities.
Tutoring Style
I provide a fully personalised tutoring programme tailored to the needs, goals, and learning style of each student. Having extensive experience with the Edexcel, AQA, and OCR specifications, I design lessons and resources that align closely with the requirements of each examination board.
My teaching approach is structured, thorough, and highly supportive. I begin by assessing a student’s current level of understanding to identify strengths and areas for development. New topics are introduced through clear, accessible explanations before progressing to the more challenging details required for top examination performance. Throughout the learning process, I focus on addressing common misconceptions and developing the precise scientific understanding needed to succeed in Biology.
A key aspect of my teaching is helping students make synoptic links across the curriculum. By connecting concepts between different topics, students develop a deeper understanding of the subject as a whole rather than viewing topics in isolation. This approach is particularly valuable for the linear structure of modern A-Level Biology courses, where success depends on the ability to apply knowledge across multiple areas of the specification.
Building confidence is central to my tutoring philosophy. Every student learns differently, and I adapt my teaching methods and resources accordingly to maximise engagement, understanding, and progress. I place great importance on developing a positive working relationship with my students, creating an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions, tackling challenges, and achieving their full potential.
Drawing on my background as a research scientist, I also enrich lessons with real-world examples and contemporary biological research. By placing curriculum content into a wider scientific context, students gain a greater appreciation for the subject and often find complex concepts easier to understand and remember.
To further support progress between lessons, I encourage students to contact me with questions as they arise. This ongoing support helps maintain momentum, address difficulties promptly, and ensure that each tutoring session is as productive and effective as possible.
