In 2024, I graduated with a master's in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Manchester and am now a first-year nuclear fusion PhD researcher at the University of York. I have been tutoring since October 2021, working with a range of abilities and ages from KS3 up to university level. I have acquired an extensive knowledge of many exam boards and curricula and gained experience working with mature students and those with SEND. Following my PhD, I hope to continue working in academia and pursue a university research and lecturing role. I really value the opportunity to tutor and teach others about maths and physics while still studying.

I studied maths, physics, biology and further maths in my A-levels and loved them so much that I'm now pursing STEM as a career! Like a lot of students, I often had a love-hate relationship with STEM subjects as they can be highly rewarding when understood but are often quite difficult to initially understand. Having been through this at GCSE and in A-levels, and still going through it now in my PhD, I am able to use my experience and the techniques that I have learnt to help students overcome these struggles and ease the difficult parts of learning STEM. The problem-solving skills required for GCSE and A-Level exam questions are the exact same that I deal with on a daily basis and so I am able to help students not only with difficult content but also with the right exam technique, which will follow them throughout their studies.

In my tutoring sessions, I aim not only to resolve problems students may be having with understanding topics but also to practice relevant exam styles and techniques through regular assessments using actual past-paper questions. I prepare sessions with a main aim and 2/3 objectives that break down the topics into sizeable, understandable parts, and end with exam questions. I provide a clear set of notes with examples and questions across all levels of difficulty, so the lessons never feel slow or boring. Interaction is always encouraged, and if any difficulties arise, I am able to talk with the student and solve the problem together; it is never just me lecturing the student!
