About Hannah Louise

I’m a qualified Geography teacher, examiner and former Head of Geography with more than 10 years’ experience teaching GCSE and A Level Geography. I examine for AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR and Cambridge International, giving me a detailed understanding of assessment objectives, mark schemes and what distinguishes the highest-level responses.

I support students at a range of starting points, from those who need to rebuild confidence and secure their target grade to high-achieving students aiming for Grades 8–9 and A/A*. Recent students I have supported have achieved A* and high A grades at A Level, including one student who achieved 107/108 on Paper 3, with students progressing to universities including Oxford and LSE.

My tuition combines strong geographical knowledge with explicit exam technique. I help students understand exactly where marks are being gained or lost and develop the skills needed for application, analysis, evaluation, synoptic thinking, data interpretation and extended writing.

I also specialise in A Level NEA support, including refining enquiry questions, methodology, data presentation, analysis and evaluation, while ensuring that all assessed work remains the student’s own.

I have extensive experience supporting students with SEND and ADHD and adapt the pace, resources and teaching approach to suit the individual learner. I teach across the major UK and international exam boards, including AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, Cambridge International, Eduqas/WJEC and IB.

Tutoring Style

My lessons are highly targeted and built around the individual student. I begin by identifying their exam board, current and target grade, upcoming assessments, areas of weaker knowledge and the types of questions where they are currently losing marks. This allows tuition to focus on what will make the greatest difference to their performance.

Lessons combine clear teaching of geographical content with structured exam practice. I use examiner-style questioning, worked examples, modelled responses and detailed feedback to help students understand not only what a strong answer looks like, but why it receives marks.

A major focus of my teaching is developing independence. I teach students how to interpret command words, apply geographical knowledge to unfamiliar contexts, select precise case-study evidence, develop analytical chains, evaluate effectively and reach supported judgements. For longer questions and essays, we work on argument, structure and the quality of analysis rather than relying on memorised answers.

For A Level students, I can also provide specialist NEA guidance. This can include refining the enquiry focus, linking the investigation to the specification, developing sub-questions or hypotheses, selecting appropriate primary and secondary data, methodology and sampling, data presentation, analysis and evaluation. My role is to guide the student through the geographical enquiry process while ensuring their submitted work remains independently produced.

For students with SEND or ADHD, I adapt lesson structure, pace and resources to reduce cognitive overload while maintaining high academic expectations.

My aim is for students to leave tuition understanding Geography more deeply, knowing exactly how to approach their examinations and, ultimately, becoming less dependent on a tutor.
