I am a qualified teacher, and have taught physics to A-level in the UK and in Kenya for many years. I

I started teaching in the UK in a London comprehensive school before moving to teach in Kenya. As a physics teacher in Kenya I also became a course developer and examiner for physics to GCSE level in East Africa. I taught physics and was head of physics department in Government secondary schools in Kenya as part of the British Overseas Service Aid Scheme. Contributed to the development of the Secondary Science Project (SSP) science course covering the first four years of secondary school leading to Kenya School Certificate. Wrote some of the course materials and took part in the evaluation. The aim was to develop a science curriculum within East Africa suited to East African schools.

After leaving Kenya I becam a technical training administrator in Saudi Arabia, employed by British Aerospace at the Technical Studies Institute of the Saudi Air Force in Dhahran, Organised the selection of Saudi Air Force cadets to appropriate specialist technical training according to the manpower requirements of the Air Force. Liaised with colleagues from Britain, Saudi Air Force officers and NCOs and Pakistani Air Force officer advisors. Briefed cadets on the opportunities available and took into account their preferences, their scores in examinations of their technical training and scores in aptitude tests. Received training in Britain in aptitude testing and selection from SHL Ltd.

 After leaving Saudi Arabia I returned to teaching in the UK. I am now retired from full-time teaching but continue teaching individual students online, including those having some difficulty and those aiming for a high grade in GCSE or A-level. I have also been a volunteer with Norfolk County Council under Titan scheme to help SEND students travel to college Jul 2020 until May 2021 when the scheme ended. As a physics teacher in the UK I was also for most of that time examiner in A-level physics for the University of London Examinations Board (now part of Edexcel)

I match online lessons to the individual needs of the students. To introduce a topic I share existing text, diagrams and calculations with the student and then questions on the topic. I normally set some homework questions on topics we have covered and go through these in the next lesson as far as the student needs to. I encourage students to participate fully in the lessons by asking them about each topic as we proceed and encouraging them to ask me for clarification or to explain another point.
