Hello! I have been a Science teacher and professional tutor for over 10 years, having worked with students of various abilities and backgrounds, including home schooled students and those with special educational needs. I have taught all sciences up to GCSE Level, specialising in Biology at A Level, in a number of schools in London and the South East of England.

I have been recognised for achieving the highest progress in KS4 biology across the schools in my academy trust, and have also held a position as Manager of Sixth Form; I have, therefore, had many years of experience helping students pastorally as well as academically, and this really impacts how I teach.

I take a collaborative approach to teaching - I don't like just feeding my students answers, but to really help digest the information in a way that suits them personally, while also teaching the skills to help continually improve even when I am not there. I am always happy to take questions outside sessions to clarify any concepts, and to adjust the content of lessons based on areas of weakness we identify in the course of the week. I also regularly set homework tasks based on your needs to help you continually progress. 1 or 2 hours a week is not going to be what enables rapid progress - it is all the support, effort and development that takes place in the time between sessions that does this! I am flexible in my teaching style and will always adapt to suit your needs. I am a big believer in the need to not only teach subject content, but to also teach students how to effectively learn independently. 

I have taught all the major exam boards in Science, and have helped many students improve by an average of 2 grades in a matter of months at both GCSE and A Level, with all my students meeting or exceeding their predicted grades. I am also a registered examiner with AQA, OCR and Edexcel.

My main aim in teaching (aside from helping my students improve and understand concepts) is to create a collaborative, safe and positive environment. I always strive to encourage students and help them see what they are doing well, even if there is still room for improvement. I do not just throw information at students and then leave them to it, but I aim to explain the bigger picture of what we are learning before getting to the nitty gritty of topics that students find difficult. Then, once you feel more confiident in approaching the subject content, we can work on exam technique. I enjoy getting to know my students as individuals and do not have a one size fits all approach - I will always assess where you are before considering what we do next and what I set for you to do in your independent study time. I am a full time tutor and I'm always available via messaging to answer questions and offer feedback between sessions too - that's the most important part to ensure we are always making progress!

My sessions are not lectures, they are interactive and dynamic - I'm completely flexible and can adapt to what you need within the session without notice. I ask questions, use drawings, pictures, videos, exam questions, analogies and just about anything that I think will help my student to understand a concept better. As Science can explain literally everything around us, I try to always link concepts to examples my students will be interested in or familiar with - that's how concepts become memorable and easier to process. I also develop personalised worksheets and tasks to set for independent study to help progress and also to make sure things we have covered in past sessions are not forgotten. 

I have worked with so many different students over the years - in comprehensive schools, in grammar schools, in technical colleges, home schooled, those with special educational needs, working at all different levels and grades and struggling with completely different aspects - so I am confident I have an approach up my sleeve that can help you!
