I am a knowledgeable and committed tutor with a strong academic background and experience in helping students to develop their understanding and confidence in Chemistry. I am well-qualified, having achieved a first-class honours in a Chemical Engineering, alongside practical experience in the form of 6+ years of consistent tutoring and several years of working as a chemical engineer for an international engineering firm. 

I have a thorough understanding of the requirements and assessment objectives across the major exam boards (AQA, OCR and Edexcel), and I have experience of working with students of a range of abilities, helping to strengthen their subject knowledge and prepare effectively for examinations and assessments.

My experience has enabled me to develop a strong understanding of the knowledge and skills students need to succeed, and I am dedicated to providing accurate, well-informed academic support and helping students make meaningful progress towards their goals. 

In my opinion, patience is the key to effective tutoring: I aim to create a supportive atmosphere where students feel comfortable admitting when they do not understand something, as this is an important part of the learning process.

When starting with a new student, I believe it is important that we set clear aims together and pinpoint the areas they find most challenging. These will become a priority, ensuring that lessons focus first on addressing gaps in understanding before moving on to topics that are less of a stumbling block.

When introducing new material, I take the time to explain concepts clearly and encourage students to ask questions whenever they need to. We will then work through questions together, where I will guide the student through the necessary steps while gradually encouraging them to apply their knowledge more independently. 

At the end of each lesson, we will summarise what we have covered, highlighting what the student has done well as well as areas that may benefit from further work. Where appropriate, I might ask the student to summarise the content as if they were explaining it to me. This is an extremely effective method of learning and retaining key concepts.

We will then agree on the focus for the next lesson, giving us both time to prepare and ensuring that the tutoring remains structured and purposeful.

As the student becomes more familiar with the course content, lessons increasingly focus on exam-style questions and past papers. In my experience, this is one of the most effective ways to consolidate knowledge, develop exam technique and improve performance once the core content has been learned. I adapt the pace, questions and resources to suit the individual student, helping them build both the knowledge and confidence needed to make consistent progress.
