I am an experienced English specialist with three years of classroom teaching across secondary and Further Education, and I currently lecture in English Literature and Philosophy at an FE college. I am also an accredited examiner, giving me detailed knowledge of assessment objectives, mark schemes and what examiners look for at GCSE and A Level.

My academic background includes A Level English Literature and a degree in Theology and Philosophy from Durham University, alongside ongoing postgraduate study in Psychology of Education at the University of Manchester. I have supported students across a wide range of abilities, including those preparing for GCSE English Language and both GCSE and A Level English Literature examinations.

My experience spans set text study, unseen analysis, comparative essays and exam preparation, with strong familiarity across major exam boards including AQA, OCR and Edexcel.

My tutoring is structured, focused and tailored to the individual student. I begin by identifying strengths, gaps in knowledge and specific exam requirements, helping students unlock a better understanding of the mark scheme, then build a clear plan to help students make measurable progress. Lessons are carefully organised around assessment objectives, ensuring students understand exactly how to move up the mark scheme.

I create a calm, supportive atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing ideas. As both a lecturer and examiner, I place particular emphasis on developing analytical precision, confident written expression and secure exam technique. We work with model responses, structured essay planning and targeted feedback so students can see what high-level answers look like and how to produce them independently.

My approach is informed by my ongoing postgraduate study in Psychology of Education, meaning I adapt materials and explanations to suit different learning needs. I have experience supporting students with SEND, including dyslexia and ASC, and I incorporate strategies to build organisation, revision skills and long-term confidence alongside subject knowledge.

Ultimately, my aim is not only improved grades, but genuine understanding and self-assurance in English!
