Why Computer Science:

In an increasingly digital world, a strong grasp of computer science is essential. I aim to equip students with the skills necessary to succeed in whichever profession they choose to pursue in the future.

Tutoring Style

My golden rule for tutoring is that you need to enjoy the time we spend together developing your mastery of the subject. If you aren't enjoying learning and you aren't leaving the session feeling more confident then I have let you down.

Often my tutees benefit from my experience in helping others learn how to revise more effectively or how to improve ability to write code. I'm more interested in discovering your understanding of the core principals of computational thinking before helping you master memory recall and exam technique. My focus is on developing three core areas of personal development, these are resilience, routine and consistency.

Final year exams are incredibly stressful. Resilience is a powerful tool to help develop confidence and reduce exam stress. The first step in making any progress is to embrace failure as it enables a student to identify learning goals and target areas for improvement, whilst always moving forward.

The only way to develop effective learning strategies is through trial and error. Planning a realistic routine, well in advance of exams will help you to improve memory recall, reduce stress and balance your workload in the run up to any exams.

Consistency is getting the balance right between the discipline revise and the motivation to learn. Both are needed to improve memory recall and develop exam technique. A sound understanding of the syllabus will get you so far, but knowing how communicate your knowledge effectively during assessments will help you to score more marks when it counts.
