About Martin
I have recently retired as Science lead at a special needs school specialising in supporting students with ASC diagnosis. As well as running the Science department and teaching GCSE (double award) Science and BTEC First Applied Science, I supported a group of students studying for Higher GCSE Maths. Previously, I have worked both in mainstream schools and for EOTAS (excluded student support) around South Wales, and have tutored both neurotypical and neurodivergent students to A-level in Science and Maths and to GCSE level in ICT/Computing and English, both independently and through Smart Education (a local after-school tuition service).
Prior to retraining as a teacher, I had a career in engineering, specialising in Semiconductor process engineering. During that time I helped in the development of blue LEDs, micromechanical devices, infra-red sensor arrays, nanotechnology and other leading-edge technologies.
Tutoring Style
After getting to know the student, I will identify suitable materials for use off-line, then work through answers by a video-link. I have had particular success with anxious or challenging students, patiently helping them to understand and gain confidence in themselves. Where relevant, I draw on my industrial experience to help students understand the real-world relevance of the topics they are studying.
