My name is Clare and I am passionate about helping students to build their confidence, resilience and determination in order to enable them maximise their academic potential! After achieving First Class Honours in Human Sciences (BA) from the University of Oxford, I gained my MSc in Medical Anthropology (also from the University of Oxford). I've been an 11-18 Biology teacher ever since (15+ years...). Having worked with well over a thousand students, I have found ways of breaking down content into manageable chunks and I have developed ways of explaining even the most complex topics in ways that are relatable and memorable. I place no limits on what my students can achieve and I place great emphasis on helping students to have greater self-confidence.

My tutoring style is relaxed but meticulous! I believe that young people learn best when they feel at ease and comfortable to engage in discussion with their tutor. I ensure that I get to know my students to help them get into the mindset that will best enable them to learn. I have endless tricks for helping students to remember details and I know the exam boards that I teach like the back of my hand, so I ensure that content is fully exam-targeted and that tutees are aware of the common ways of examining each topic. Once understanding of a topic is secure, it is all about remembering the details. After that, it is about using what you know and understand to tackle exam questions and practising applying knowledge and understanding in novel contexts. In addition, I provide support with planning revision by making use of evidence-based strategies that really work. Along the way, I ensure that the content of sessions is relatable, engaging and enjoyable.
